Why Rocky Marciano is my Favorite Fighter

Rocky Marciano is my favorite fighter because we have so much in common. When he was a little kid he bordered on being poor, and my family doesn’t have the most amount of money either. The number one thing we have in common is that he is Italian, just like me. We are both from Massachusetts, and just like me, he loved to help people. He had a pretty rough life but always had love in his home, just as there is in mine. He wasn’t very good at sports, skill wise, but he ruled at the physical stuff just like I do. The part about him, well the best thing to me, is how he could sleep right before his fights. I mean, he was just so calm, and it was as if he knew nothing would happen. He was also very caring when he put Carmine Vingo in a coma, he was there everyday to pray for him. The thing that I envy the most was how he was fearless. For example, when he was driving on the highway with his trainer and his brother, he missed the exit, so he turned completely around and drove against traffic until they got there. I could never do something like that. I also love that when he won he didn’t go taunting everyone saying that he was the best. I loved that when he went to a trainer for the first time, the trainer turned him down and said it would be impossible for him to go anywhere in the boxing world, but then Rocky proved him wrong and became the champ. Scientists have said that at the right angle, with all his power, Rocky could take someone’s head off. I hope that when I grow up, I can be at least half the man he was.

Poem by April Snell:

This boxing thing saved my life
I've turned from wrong to right
I go to work out every night
Now I'm excited about my life

I used to go out and do dumb things
I thought it was just normal teenage fun
But now with all that, I'm done
I wish I hadn't done all those stupid things

Now I'm loving the things that I do
My mind is finally thinking straight
Boxing has me feeling great
My life is now full with good things to do

This boxing thing really saved my life
I've turned a wrong into a right
I go and workout every night
Now I'm finally excited about my life!
